What is the traditional Japanese color "Rikyu-iro"?
Rikyu-iro, a calm yellow-green, derives its name from the aesthetic sensibilities cherished by the tea master Sen no Rikyu. Its slightly muted hue evokes a refined and mature atmosphere. During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, while serving Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Rikyu pursued the Zen spirit of quietly confronting one's own mind. He is said to have favored hanging scrolls of Zen calligraphy in his tea rooms, and the soft texture of that ink is also associated with this color.
