What is the traditional Japanese color "Kinpekishu"?
Kinpekiju is a color that represents the brilliance of the moment the sun rises from the blue-green sea. It is one of the lapis lazuli colors originating in China, and is a deep color that gives a subtle hint of gold to the blue-green. The combination of gold and blue-green can be seen in Kinpeki Sansui, which originated in the Tang Dynasty, and in Kinpeki Hekibega, which was painted by Kano Eitoku and others in Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. In both cases, the two colors complement each other, creating a striking beauty. At first glance it looks blue, but it is a color that gives a sense of gold.
