What is the traditional Japanese color "coral color"?
Coral color is a gentle pink born from the coral that lives in the sea. Coral is the skeleton of coral polyps that live on the seabed, and this color is made from crushed red coral used as a pigment. The finer it is crushed, the lighter the color becomes, and it is characterized by a softer and more subdued impression than the original red. Coral has been treasured since ancient times as an ornament for bracelets and necklaces, and its blood-like hue has been believed to have the meaning of warding off evil. In Buddhism, it is counted as one of the seven treasures, and in Japan, it was a color with an elegant charm that was popular for hairpins and combs during the Edo period.
