WABARA is a rose that has a gentle expression and supple strength, which is not found in the gorgeous roses produced in Europe and America. In 12 episodes, we will introduce the charm of WABARA, which is grown with care at Rose Farm Cage, a rose farm in Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture, and Rose Farm Cage's efforts to coexist with nature.
The children walking through the fields are local elementary school students that both Keiji and Kenichi attended. Listen to Keiji's story, not only take a tour, but also observe, and experience agriculture at a rose farm. The opportunity to not only observe farming, but also to step into the fields and come into contact with agriculture and roses is a valuable experience for them.
Elementary school students wearing yellow school caps are walking through the fields of Rose Farm Cage. This is an extracurricular class called flower education for sixth graders at Ozu Elementary School, which is located near the farm and where Keiji and Kenichi also attended. How are roses grown and delivered to consumers? In addition to touring fields, greenhouses, and flower selection areas, participants will also observe roses and report on what they understand and feel. The project uses WABARA as a teaching material to explain the ecosystem of Lake Biwa and foster a sensitive mind that values nature.
The act of decorating with flowers is just a distant event for people who are not used to it. Conversely, it has been found that people who grew up in families where there was a custom of displaying flowers during childhood tend to be more interested in flowers. This will not only encourage the purchase of flowers, but also help people feel the subtleties of the season and increase their sensitivity.
On the other hand, learning about the ecology of natural objects (thorns, environment, etc.) will give you an opportunity to think about flowers and other aspects of nature that go beyond just being pretty.
The hope is that through flower education, people will think about agriculture and regional development in Moriyama, Shiga, and that they will feel a love for their hometown. Another important point is that it also provides career education for local elementary school students. Flower growing is an important event that conveys Keiji and Kenichi's passion for growing roses and connects the community and the farm.
