The appearance of a four-petaled flower created by Living National Treasure Kenkichi Tomimoto,
Woven into tapestry brocade by Tatsumura Art Textiles in Nishijin, Kyoto
At The Okura Tokyo, we can once again experience Okura's deep aesthetic sense. There are several works that convey this sensibility even in the form of textiles spun from carefully selected individual threads.
The ``Shibenkamon Orinari Wall'' was installed between the main lobby of the Hotel Okura Tokyo main building and the European restaurant. Shipetabana is an orchid flower that is unique to Japan, and the flower shape created by Kenkichi Tomimoto, a master pottery artist and living national treasure, is woven into pure silk tapestry brocade and hung on a folding screen-style wall. was. It is also one of Tomimoto's last works. Produced by Tatsumura Art Textile in Nishijin, Kyoto. The four-petaled flower, illuminated by the lights of the Okura Lantern, has been engraved in people's hearts as a part of the scenery of Hotel Okura Tokyo. This time, it has been once again created by Tatsumura Textiles, based on drawings from the time.
The wall at the entrance to the main building's banquet hall, ``Heian no Ma,'' was decorated with ``Nishikibari,'' a decoration made with brocade interwoven with brocade. You can also check it out at Hotel Okura Tokyo Annex.
Another aspect of Okura's history that we must not forget is the ``Nishikibari'' that adorned the entrance to the banquet hall ``Heian no Ma.'' The design was inspired by the Muromachi period's ``gold, silver, brocade, etc. stitched vestments'' (owned by Uesugi Shrine), which are designated as important cultural properties. It is a decorative wall made by restoring over 1300 different types of fabrics, such as brocade, gold and silver brocade, and danshi, which are famous fabrics passed down in the ancient times, and pasting them together.
The elevator doors in the main building were covered in brocade with a rhombus pattern, reminiscent of the Okura family crest, the five-story rhombus.
An abstract expression that embodies Japan's unique spirit of chic, such as the combination of patterns and the subtle use of white space. The collage brings a sense of dynamism, and a rich depth expands within the two-dimensional depiction. It has also been pleasing to the public as an art form composed of bold straight lines in a variety of colors and patterns.
The ``four-petal flower pattern'' will be revived as decoration in the lobby on the 5th floor of the Okura Prestige Tower, and the ``brocade pattern'' will be revived as a decoration in the lobby on the 5th floor of the Okura Heritage Wing.
