MUNI KYOTOis adjacent to the Fukuda Art Museum, which opened last year, and is conscious of art as a minimal form of expression within a "plain" space. Since ancient times, Japanese decorative culture, including tea rooms, has expressed the changing seasons and the host's hospitality. It is said that this intention is hidden in the art inside the museum. The architecture was handled by Yasuda Atelier, and the interior design and art planning were handled by Uchida Design Institute.
As you enter the entrance, in front of you is a Suikinkutsu created by ceramic artist Masanobu Ando.Suikinkutsu is a place where you can appreciate the sound of water droplets, and originally the device that makes the sound would not be visible above ground. In this work, I intentionally exposed the elements to express the "forms of water and sound." ©Satoshi Asakawa

In addition to original treatments using ingredients from Kyoto, the spa menu also features top-quality anti-aging care delivered from a clinic in Switzerland. A comfortable space with a simple design that intentionally eliminates decorations.
MUNI KYOTO has a total of 21 rooms. The interior has a simple, relaxing design based on white and wood, hinting at the fusion of West and East, tradition and modernity.
While many luxury hotels emphasize Japanese and Kyoto-like elements, MUNI KYOTO is impressive in its extremely simple and high-quality style. There is no need for excessive design in the hotel itself, given the stunning surrounding scenery.
Guest rooms on the second floor have high ceilings and offer a more open atmosphere. It is interesting that the interior walls are made of either Western stucco/antico or Japanese plaster depending on the surface. ©Satoshi Asakawa

Alain Ducasse's restaurant becomes a hot topic
MUNI KYOTO is also a hot topic because Alain Ducasse, a master of the French culinary world, has two restaurants within the building. ``MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE'' serves contemporary French cuisine made with Kyoto ingredients, while ``MUNI LA TERASSE'' serves breakfast, lunch, and tea time. MUNI LA BOUTIQUE, a baked goods boutique by Ducasse Paris, founded by Alain Ducasse, also opened in July 2 in the building.
And “MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE” and “MUNI LA TERASSE” both received one star in “Michelin Guide Kyoto/Osaka + Wakayama 2022”. It is attracting more attention.
At MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE, Hugues Gerard, who gained experience at Alain Ducasse's 3-star restaurants in Paris, Monaco, and London, has been appointed as the chef. The restaurant is also decorated with famous paintings that served as inspiration for the space design. Also worth noting is Takenobu Igarashi's work ``Garden of Light'' that can be seen from the window. ©Satoshi Asakawa

Visit the Fukuda Art Museum and enjoy art to the fullest
As mentioned earlier, MUNI KYOTO is adjacent to the Fukuda Art Museum. The museum's collection consists of works by major painters from the Edo period to modern times, with a total collection of approximately 1500 pieces. Particular emphasis is placed on collecting works from the Kyoto art world.
A sophisticated Japanese modern exterior that blends in with its surroundings. The photo shows the museum's front garden (water basin), which becomes a large water mirror and reflects the surrounding scenery.
Fukuda Art Museum entrance lobby. The exterior wall of the building uses a lot of glass with wickerwork patterns printed on it, allowing a pleasant light to filter into the building. Yasuda Atelier was in charge of the architecture and interior of the Fukuda Art Museum.
Because we want everyone to enjoy art, we provide explanations that are as easy to understand as possible for the works on display, and many of the works are available for photography by visitors. Another feature of the exhibition is that you can get close to the works, and some works can be viewed from a distance of about 30 cm through the glass.
Currently, the Fukuda Art Museum is holding an exhibition called ``Painters of Tragedy.'' On display are works by painters who have faced various tragedies in their lives, such as accidents and the loss of loved ones, as well as works depicting bad luck. In the first chapter, you can admire the works of early modern painters such as Hayami Gyoshu, Kijima Sakuratani, and Takehisa Yumeji, and in the second chapter, you can admire the works of early modern painters such as Fukae Ashifune, Nagasawa Ashizuki, and Watanabe Kazan.
If you have visited Kyoto many times in the past, instead of running around the city, why not spend time surrounded by beautiful nature and relaxing both physically and mentally? Contemporary art and famous paintings from the Edo period to modern times. Art that you can't find anywhere else is sure to make your journey as an adult even more appealing.
