As soon as I stepped inside, I was in another world. If you look down, the world below is far away. Beautiful alpine plants are in full bloom, and bright autumn leaves decorate the mountains. Sometimes you can admire the sea of clouds and be healed by the hot water above the clouds... As the effects of floods caused by heavy rain and the new coronavirus continue, take a break from your daily routine and take a walk in the sky just for the mood. The "Premium Japan" editorial department has selected 12 scenic fields on the mountain that you would like to visit someday. We will introduce the charm and characteristics of each spot.
``Senjojiki'', where alpine plants that look like jewels decorate the rocky peaks
When you get off the ropeway, you'll be surrounded by a cool air that will make you shiver, even in the summer. Altitude: 2,612m. This is Senjojiki, the highest station in Japan. The magnificent scenery called the cirque (circle valley) that stretches out before your eyes will take your breath away. A cirque is a bowl-shaped landform carved out by ice during the Ice Age. Senjojiki Curl is said to have been formed approximately 2 years ago.
The ridgeline of rocky peaks centered around the sword-like peak of Mt. Hokendake creates a spectacular border line with the blue sky. If you look down little by little, you'll notice colorful flowers dotting the green curls. In early summer, a variety of unique and lovely flowers bloom in abundance, such as Koiwakagami, Chinguruma, and Japanese buttercup, and then in late summer, such as Kuruma lily, Japanese lily, and Japanese buttercup, all of which are full of uniqueness and enjoy the short summer at high altitudes.
Yotsubashiogama. A perennial herb that is distributed in the subalpine zone from Hokkaido to the central Honshu region and north. It is about 20 to 50 cm tall, and its two-tone petals of red and light purple are very eye-catching.

Senjojiki Cirque has a promenade that surrounds the flower garden. It takes about an hour to walk around the inner circle at a leisurely pace. If you're lucky, you'll be able to look down on a sea of clouds and feel like you're inside a jewelry box. A treasured walk in the sky that takes you through another world on the mountain. However, entering inside the rope is strictly prohibited. Enjoy the experience of visiting the habitats of plants, insects, and wild animals that live in a harsh natural environment. Observing rules and etiquette in the mountains and nature is the pursuit of sustainability, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have been attracting more attention recently (adopted at the 1 United Nations Summit based on 17 guidelines), are the pursuit of sustainability. It is also part of the international goal for a better world.
Now, back to another world on the mountain. After passing through the Senjojiki Cirque promenade, you will reach Hatchozaka, a steep, winding climb that leads to a saddle called Nokkoshi Jodo. Once you reach the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Kisokomagatake (2,956m above sea level, Japan's 100 Famous Mountains), the majestic mountain in the Central Alps. However, if you are not equipped or dressed for mountain climbing or trekking, it is best to limit yourself to walking around the promenade. By the way, the temperature drops by about 0.6 degrees for every 0 meters you increase in altitude. If the temperature is 25 degrees on flat land (10m above sea level), the temperature at Senjojiki Station will be XNUMX degrees or less. Even in the summer, it is recommended that you carry some warm clothing.
View of Senjojiki from Mt. Hokendake at an altitude of 2,931m. In the distance, you can see the ridgeline of the Southern Alps. The red building on the lower right is Hotel Senjojiki, which also serves as the ropeway Senjojiki station building. It is popular as the highest hotel in Japan and is booked all year round.
