Some of Japan’s most impressive waterfalls

Japan is famous for mountains, and with mountains come waterfalls. Here are some of the most beautiful in Japan.

01.Oshinkoshin Falls

Located in Hokkaido’s Shiretoko, this staircase style waterfall is also called the “Twin Beauties”, because it splits in two.

02.Akiu Great Falls

These falls can be found in Sendai of Miyagi prefecture. They are known for their large volume, and the roaring sound them produce.

03.Kegon Falls

These falls are part of what makes Nikko in Tochigi prefecture so famous. The 97m falls are beautiful in any season.

04.Shōmyō Falls

These immense 350m falls can be found in Tateyama of Toyama prefecture. Sometimes you can even see a 3rd fall to the right.

05.Hirayuo Falls

These 64m falls are located in Takayam of Gifu prefecture, and are famous for being illuminated when they freeze in February.

06.Nachi Falls

These falls in Wakayama prefecture not only have a 133m drop, but also a 10m deep cauldron at the bottom.

07.Kanba Falls

These falls in Manigawa city of Okayama have the largest drop in all of central Japan, at 110m.

08.Harajiri Falls

Referred to at the “Niagara of the orient”, these falls seem to appear suddenly out of the surrounding countryside. You can find them in Oita prefecture.
